Success 101 Peer Instructor Application
Success 101 is a class designed to provide academic support for first-semester freshmen. Success 101 consists of weekly class sessions led by an instructor and outside coaching sessions with a staff mentor. The Peer Advisor is a student (minimum of sophomore standing) who attends these weekly in-class sessions, acting as both a mentor to the students and as a liaison between the instructor and the class. This is a paid position which takes place during the fall semester only.
Applicants must be
- At least sophomore at the start of employment in August 2012
- Committed to a full academic semester
- In good standing with Illinois State University as it relates to student conduct
- In good standing with Illinois State University as it relates to G.P.A., with a minimum of 2.75.
Responsibilities and Expectations of a Peer Mentor include
- Attend mandatory trainings in mid-August and early-May (Spring ’12)
- During the fall semester, meet weekly with your Success 101 instructor
- Attend scheduled mandatory monthly meetings/activities
- Attend your assigned Success 101 class
- Maintain a minimum cumulative 2.75 GPA
The application includes
- A completed application
- A 1-2 page personal statement explaining:
- How you believe mentoring can help first-generation and underrepresented students.
- Why do you want to be a Success 101 Peer Instructor and what could you offer?
- What do you hope to gain from your experience as a Success 101 Peer Instructor?
- What strengths will you bring to your position as a Success 101 Peer Instructor?
- In what ways do you think you will be challenged as a Success 101 Peer Instructor?
- As an undergraduate student what challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?
- A completed recommendation form by an Illinois State University faculty or staff member.

Recommendation forms must be submitted online. Complete the Peer Instructor Recommendation Form.
Completed Applications must be submitted by Friday, April 6, 2012.
