Success 101 - Become an Instructor

University College is soliciting applications for instructors for the Fall 2012 University Success Skills class that is a component of the Success 101 program.  Success 101 is an intrusive academic support program for at risk students. 

The two credit hour course is designed to assist students in making a successful transition to Illinois State while providing the intrusive academic support that maybe necessary for their success.  The goals of the course are: 

  • to assist students with effectively managing their academic schedules,
  • to assist students with their academic goals,
  • to help students develop academic skills for success
  • to access campus support services, contributing to their overall success. 

In addition to the University Success Skills Course, Success 101 participation also includes: 

  • Weekly Success Coach meetings designed to assist the students with staying on top of their academics as well as assisting with the transition from high school to college. 
  • Learning Community of classes that include Principles of Geology (Geology 102) and Communication as Critical Inquiry (Communication 110).
  • A Network of Support-All Success 101 students are assigned an Academic Advisor (and financial aid advisor).  Additionally, each Success 101 class is assigned a peer mentor/instructor. 
  • Social events for the students and staff to facilitate relationships with members of the Success 101 network. Events include:  a kickoff picnic, a Family Weekend tailgate, and a bowling and pizza night.

Participation in Success 101 is voluntary but enrollment is by invitation only.

Stipends for instructors will based on a number of factors, including: current NTT Union Contract Guidelines, level of degree held by the instructor, and varying administrative responsibilities held by staff in other areas.  The stipend will be paid between August and December in increments.
