University College Academic Advisors advise all students who have less than 24 credit hours earned, with the exception of those students participating in the Honors Program. You will meet with your academic advisor at least twice during your freshman year.
The purpose of an advising appointment is to discuss your experiences at Illinois State and your goals, both academic and non-academic. Advisors may make suggestions and referrals to other offices on campus. For example, if you are interested in tutoring for one of your classes, your advisor can help you explore available options. Call (309) 438-7604 to schedule an appointment.
Advisors are available during designated times for walk-in questions. You can stop by during these times to speak to your advisor without having an appointment scheduled. Please call (309) 438-7604 to determine your advisor’s walk-in hours. Walk-ins are typically brief discussions lasting no more than 15 minutes.
Advisors frequently use Illinois State University e-mail with students, communicating important updates, deadlines, requirements, requests, and changes. You are responsible for checking your ilstu.edu account on a daily basis. For security purposes, faculty and staff only respond to student messages from ilstu.edu accounts. You are also responsible for updating your phone number via the iCampus portal.
